So I had the opportunity to be able to play the closed beta of Granblue Fantasy Versus, a fighting game based off of the mobile/web game and the anime. Unfortunately I have only been able to watch the anime, but honestly I enjoyed it a lot and wished that there was another season of it coming soon which has yet to be announced.

Also on record, I am not exactly the best when it comes to fighting games. I am more of a JRPG kind of guy, but as a fan of the series, I decided to give it a shot!

Now the gameplay and even lobby is done similarly to how BlazBlue (another fighting game I’ve played). Though since it was in beta I can’t fully grade it, I know it is still in the works, but for the most part, no complaints. Only main complaint is there is no rematch button. We’d have to sit back down on the chair and undergo the whole connection process over again. Though it is a small complaint, didn’t really hinder my experience.

The animation and dialogue before the matches were really entertaining. Each character has a different thing to say depending who they’re going up against. I liked that it did that because it gave a lot of individualism to the character. Though at times it would look like the animation would drop in frames, but once again.. beta.

The fighting played through seamlessly. Easy to get into, tons of combos to learn, and visually extremely pleasing. It is your typical 2D fighter and definitely would recommend picking up if you’re into Anime, 2D fighters, and of course Granblue Fantasy!
