This past month I had the pleasure of attending Sakura-Con as Press with the help of my friend who was able to grab me an airline flight as well as Kinfold Clothing who gave me a place to stay during the convention.
Overall what I really enjoy about Sakura-Con is how much of a community it felt versus it being extremely industry. There are many conventions as big as this. where I feel like there is an extreme emphasis on the industry like works. What makes Sakura-Con as enjoyable as it is, is the actual attendees that are there, as well as, the actual people who run the convention are extremely welcoming. I am not a Seattle native, coming from California, so it felt like I was a part of this anime community. On top of that, the many fans that I met during the convention, it was a pleasure and the honor was all here for seeing many of you who enjoy what I create online.
The exhibit hall was nicely spaced with a ton of variety from not only vendors but artists and local businesses. From attending Sakura-con two years ago and to where it is now, the convention has definitely grown with more vendors and even more things to look at. Despite having walked around a ton of times throughout the 3-day event, there was always something new to look at that I missed out from the previous run-through. I ran into a lot of great cosplayers and vendors there. One of the coolest booths that I visited was a Buddhist temple where a Buddhist monk would pray over you. It was definitely an experience that I never thought I would have experienced there. There was a ton of things to look at, I definitely spent a ton of money, more than I should have.
The artist alley, although very stuffy because of the many people that hung around that area and the lack of ventilation, SO MANY AMAZING ARTISTS. A lot of unique artists that I don’t regularly see in the Southern California cons that I attend. I’m hoping by next year I will be able to do a proper walkthrough next year!
I was able to attend the dance after hours on the first day. It was definitely a surprise when I put it in comparison to how it was 2 years ago. I had a blast just watching everyone dance, gathering footage and listening to the DJ’s put on a good mix! I only expect more and better outcomes as the years get by. From overhearing how it was the 2nd day, it was definitely more packed than day 1.
One of my favorite spots at the convention was outside the back where the garden was. It was filled with so many cosplayers and photographers. All who are extremely talented. There were moments when I would just walk around there just to see all the great cosplays. I definitely took advantage of some situations where I got to get them apart of my waifu wobble!
Of course, the location of the con has a lot of outside places to eat, explore, and hang out at. My favorite place to hang out and eat at was the Pike Market. A lot of great food there! Also, a nice hole in the wall place that is attached to the hotel is the Deli called Boar. I always to make sure I stop by there to grab a chipotle sandwich.
Definitely, everything I did is highlighted during the vlog. Outside of all the stuff I did on the vlog, I ran around the streets of Downtown Seattle at night and hung around with the other attendees at parties and gatherings! Definitely will be returning to Sakura-Con next year, and hopefully as a con guest or a panelist!
